Your prep work for the workshop is to either:
1. Create a personal hoshin draft if you haven't already done so in 2021 OR
2. Start "checking" your personal 2021 hoshin if you already have a personal hoshin.
See the "Pre-Workshop Materials" section below for more details.

- Be prepared with your pre-work reflections and at least a first draft of a personal hoshin (alternatively, you can bring an organizational annual plan or hoshin for the "checking" practice)
Reflection is the beginning, not the end, of learning.
The years that I have spent learning from and with Isao Yoshino confirmed for me the importance of learning from reflection.
The cycle of learning starts with reflection.
Reflection is an integral piece of the Plan-Do-Study-Adjust (PDSA) cycle of scientific learning. It is the “study and adjust” component that is often overlooked in many organizational cultures so focused on Plan-Do-Plan-Do cycles. Although the acronym starts with Plan, the beginning of the learning cycle actually starts with “Study.”
Practicing Hansei
The Japanese word hansei translates to “self-reflection.” Hansei represents the deeper learning that comes from examining the past and making corrections for the future. Purposeful, honest self-reflection — in business and in life — can help you make better decisions and can allow you to lead yourself and others more effectively. It is through reflection that you can learn, and then choose to adjust and improve. Reflection is where learning happens and where wisdom is created.
Reflection is the purpose of "checking"!
